| Tails, Claws, and VET if i remember correctly tails are to be docked on days 3-5 and dew claws on day 3? RIGHT? well i did the tails Monday and the claws yesterday. i had planned on doing them all on 1 day but didn't like hearing all the crying and mom was not happy. but everything went fairly well if i do say so myself. i didn't do the front dewclaws on Angel... the littlest one that wasn't gaining weight. i just didn't feel comfortable doing such small ones and i didn't do his tail either. i wanted him to get bigger before i mess with him... i might not do it at all. so my question is exactly how old before you (ME not the vet) can't do the claws? i just want him to get a little meat on him. but if there is a time limit then i need to know that. and when to take them to the vet. i would have taken then earlier but didn't want to take then out in the yucky weather we have been having. but its finally stopped raining today. so i was wondering if i should take them in now? thanks!

| I am not sure what the latest you can do the dews is but my vet does not like me to wait past 5 days. You said you were going to dock them and do the dews on day 1. It is my understanding that you should never do this and at least wait until day 3. They do not have the clotting factor in their blood until day 3-5 and that is why you wait until then. Otherwise you may have bleeding problems! I wish I could do them myself but I use it as a check for my vet to go over all the puppies and my female at 3-5 days. It is a minimal charge and they all get the once over! I know my mentor said she does not like to take hers to the vet for fear of them picking up something. I do take my own towel and blankets to lay on the tables there and wash them promptly when I get home. Call me anal..........................LOL! |

| I know that saves so much money but I don't know if I will be able to do this! The vet will have to be getting my money! I would be afraid of doing it wrong and I'm not sure I could bare the crying...

| I was always told never to do it after the 5th day but I don't know why. I always did mine on day 3 if possible |

| My mistake! Sorry you said you wanted to do them all in 1 day, not on day 1! I am tired today! LOL! It has just been one of those days. I agree with Dee your little one should be fine. |

| Maybe if I had someone right next to me holding my hand so that I wouldn't make a mistake I could do it. I would love to learn how but only under the right person.
