Deb, I'm sure Kimberly has already told you but a trick I use to help them latch on is put some of my own saliva on my finger and rub the teat with it. i had to hold my little guys up to nurse too the other day. They were so fragile and weak. The little paws couldn't even push even after I got them to latch on. You are doing a great job and hopefully they will continue to do well.

Thanks Sugar'smom (Dee?) I do know that trick..and we used a little Karo...which seemed to help. Mostly, they just needed to get strong suction to be able to stay on! I'm hoping for puppy three to do it this feeding. Which i think I need to go do now...

The pups appear to be getting stronger but still not able to latch on...hoping by this evening they will get enough strength. Mom is preening them and taking great care, she seems to be a great mother. Mom needed a belly shave so the kids could get to the teats better and before every feeding Deb is trying to get them to latch.

Each kid is taking about 2 cc's or more each feeding so they are now hydrated and should continue to thrive....

once we see some consistant weight gain and strength enough to latch, Deb will learn how to dock tails

no success latching orange yet, but that's okay. He's just not there yet. However, purple is on right now for his second helping of mama's milk. Kim should I give him a little formula when he's done to ensure he's gotten enough? It's so hard to tell how much milk he's getting through the nipple. I will check his tummy, however, when he's done to see if it seems full. What do you think? I got some ready just in case.

Got a little 30 minute nap in.... I must have zonked... I didn't even hear when my daughter came in from feeding horses...and I am a light light sleeper (normall7)

Default YES! Orange has joined the Latch Club

He finally latched on at 7:26 and nursed for 14 whopping minutes...and we are talking some strong sucking... We could actually see his belly filling! No pics, as I was petting Daisy too keep her still for him... we wanted to get as long of a nurse as we could.

Now time to feed me....

Ah this is so good to hear! Our male Beckham has been a little sad since he can't sleep near Daisy. But I keep telling him we'll see her soon, I promise!

deb, this is such good news. Another little tip is to check Daisy every day for Mastitis. I also had this problem after my mama got milk because the babies weren't strong enough to suck the milk out and try to place them on different teats each time they nurse to make sure all teats are being used and this will help prevent it.

As of 5:30 this morning, Blue and Purple boys are searching out and latching on all by themselves. Orange still seems to struggle. I tried to help, but he was struggling, and my eyes wouldn't function properly (they just don't work in the morning!)...so I just gave him 3 cc's of Esbilac. We'll work on getting him stronger today. The other two just amaze me. So Orange is my goal for the day...and to get Daisy to eat....any ideas, Steve? She laps up the whelping pudding no problem...she's drinking water again, (whew)...but I can't get her to eat kibble at all. Yesterday she ate a little bit of canned Wellness Puppy. I mixed some in with the puppy kibble (Royal Canin) that Steve brought....she finally ate a bite or two of it at about 3 in the morning.

She didn't poo yesterday either. The first day she did (ick..didn't make it outside)... She kept asking to go out, and we'd take her out for a walk, but then she'd be all freaked out the whole time to get back in with her babies, and wouldn't sniff around to go at all. What to do? Maybe she didn't need to go because she didn't really eat?

Any ideas would be great. She's acting fine... relaxes ALOT every time a pup latches on...she lays back like, "aaaah..." Must feel good to get that milk released.
