| Umbilical Hernia or Delayed Closure? We have a pup that was born in early January. At 7 weeks old we noticed she had developed a 'bump' in her belly button area. From what I've read this seems to be a delayed closure rather than a true hernia. I also read that if this were the case, the bump should be pressed and massaged daily to allow the muscle tissue to close over it. I have been doing this but am not sure how to tell if I'm getting results. Does anyone know how long this process may take? I'm not expecting immediate results but would like to have an idea on whether this is working or not. http://www.showdogsupersite.com/kenl...umbilical.html is the site I got most of my info from. Any help from anyone with experience with this is appreciated. |

| hernia Most likely it will not close and a hernia will remain...but it is a small defect. The hernia can be repaired at the time of spaying. I have never seen one cause a problem, but others may disagree. |
