Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | Ahhhhhhhhh! Experiancing first hand... ...what I've read about on the behavior of the male dogs while the female is in heat........and thought to myself, "I think we're in for some interesting times ahead when Toby becomes of age". Well, Lexie is in heat right now.....actually she's in "standing" heat. Toby (at 5 months) is still acting like the playful pup he is. But OMG, what is up with Lucky????? He is 3 yrs old and neutered, and I can't remember him acting this crazed before. He's trying his darndest to do the deed though he's not tall enough. And when Lexie is sitting or not in an available position, he barks, and barks, and oh, did I say.....barks! Put him in another room and he barks, whines, and scratches at the door. I guess I didn't expect a neutered male to be so crazy for a female in heat. Anyway, just thought I'd let you all know that I'm now experiancing first hand what I've only read about before. And to think next time, we'll have Lucky and Toby acting like two crazy teenage boys in love!

Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | While we're on the subject........ With all the "trying" that Lucky has been doing, I have not seen any sign of his "lipstick" (as I've seen it called) coming out. I've read about males humping toys and having their lipstick come out, problems with it going back in, etc. Is this because he is neutered? And then I started to wonder, with an intact male, one being used as a stud, if you are assisting/holding the female during breeding, how long is it before they tie? Just trying to gather up all the information I can for future reference. Thanks so much for all your experiance and helpful advice.

| Too bad that beautiful little Toby isn't a little older. I can't wait to see his babies. He will be ready next time. mine won't let me hold them when they are doing "it". But I stand right over them and as soon as it looks like they are going to tie (you can tell cause they get faster and faster0, I drop to the floor and grab them both and sit down until they untie. renny stays tied so long (thirty minutes) that by the time I get up, my back is broke. ceeby only ties for about 10-15 minutes. Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | Thanks for the reply Dee.....I know, I am so anxious for the time when Toby can sire his first litter. Yep, next time he should be old enough. We're also seriously looking for a beautiful smaller female for his future mate.

| found out today that my MIL thought the same thing. she has a poodle and a havenese, well molly the havenese went into heat and sidney the poodle(he's nutered) had urges he had never had i guess. MIL was so supprised that sidney even knew what to do, and yes he did. She said it was like walking in on her children. My poor mother in law, she was mortifed. But what cute pups they would have made.

| Some of them won't let you TOUCH them during breeding, and some like you to hold the female. Poor little Wrangler (my mentors male that studded Brooke's litter) won't do it until you hold her, he's a funny little guy. Once they get started it's only a matter of seconds before the actual tie happens, then they can be tied for anywhere from 5 mins to an hour. There's one Shih Tzu that my mentor has that ties for almost an hour...it's exhausting to WATCH! |

Too bad I am keeping all of Renny's baby girls. (I think). I just hope frankie has girls. Ceeby has only thrown five boys out of all his babies but since this is Renny's first time, I don't know. I am hoping for girls tho.

My gosh, I sit here and type and Lucky is driving us all nuts with his barking. We have him on a diet trying to get him to lose 2 lbs.........he may do it alot sooner with all the chasing Lexie around that he's been doing. Having a female in heat isn't hurting his appetite any though as I've read can happen. But the exercise he's getting alone these days sure should help. LOL I've also noticed just within the last day or so, that when Lucky is trying to mount Lexie, Toby will get snarly with him and he's been sniffing a bit at Lexie. Could the urges be starting to interest him a little bit at 5 months? Is he getting testy with Lucky because he's jealous or does he think he's hurting Lexie and he's trying to protect her?

It's a man thing. My guys snarl at each other too when one or the other getss close. If Toby starts trying to mount her, put him up because he is closer to six months than five (I think). He can breed at six months but you NEVER breed your male this young. One, you can't register the babies and two, the sperm is very immature and may produce dead or deformed babies.

Trust me when your 2 are ready your going to have your hands full. I have Bowie and Teddy right now and they are going nuts. Teddy is almost 10 mths and he thinks he's ready to be a man, lol! Bowie doesn't breed until we put him on his special spot with his girl, but the constant crying to be allowed to have his girl given to him drives us crazy. Even with seperating them in different rooms and different areas of the house doesn't help the boys from driving you nuts.

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | I had two dogs tie for over an hour, while they were sitting in my lap on the floor. Could not reach the remote to change the station on the tv; could not reach the landline phone to talk to anyone; fortunately I was able to reach my cellphone on the coffee table....but I watched my Iced coffee melt. When it was over, they cuddled on their bed and I needed help getting up off the floor--my back stiffened too. But that was an awesome bunch of puppies.... |
