| We are having 7 maybe 8 Puppies..... Oh my!! I got my girl xrayed today and the Vet said she saw 6 then 7 when she compared both films. So when we got home Bella's daddy (my husband) had to analyze the xray on the computer over and over, changing the lightness and darkness...ect. Then we saw it, the 8th puppy! I am really excited and nervous at the same time. I was expecting maybe 5 at the most, but 8!?! I asked her about eclampsia, she said since I have been feeding her boiled chicken, rice and puppy food, that I shouldnt need to worry about that. But I am worried about it, I am darn right scared! I talked to my mentor and she said to get some CALSORB and give her 1ml at 1st sign of Eclampsia...and 1 calcium-tum a day after whelping. (I wish I hadnt moved outta state yet! I need her here!!) Maybe I am overreacting, but I know you guys will understand. Anyways, I called my (I know, it was only 2 hrs since I left her office, I am sure she wants to kill me by now...lol) Vet and she gave me some 24hr Vet hospitals around here and if I had any concerns when they arent open to take her there. Anyways, I needed to get the out... ...and if anyone else have any tips, please share...they will greatly be appriciated... Thanks! Last edited by JadedSmilez; 02-27-2008 at 11:21 PM. |

| how big was your girl prior to being pregnant. i would still know the signs of eclampsia. that is a lot of babies to feed. my prior girl, who is now retired, weighed in at 8lbs prior to being pregnant had 5 and had eclampsia. very very scary. just know the signs and watch her.

| A few years ago, I had a litter of 8 tiny puppies. It about wore me out! I had to be there for each feeding to insure everyone got a teat, and she had just enough. Congratulations, I definitely don't miss those days. |

| I agree with lisatodd about eclampsia is can scare the crap out of ya.I have had it and never want to again and we only had a litter of 3! Will your vet give calcium tablets after whelping for her? I prefer the tablets from the vet instead of the tums. We had the eclampsia right after whelping the litter, she just kept panting and then left her box and I knew that was not right. Now I keep calsorb on hand. |

YT Graphic Artist Donating Member | Wow! 8 babies! That's amazing! I hope everything goes smoothly for you. You are right to be concerned about eclampsia with all those little mouths to feed. My dam (Gellica) was 8 lbs proir to pregnancy (she gained about 2 lbs during) and she had a litter of 4 babies. After 2 weeks, we almost lost her due to this, and had to rush her to the emergency vet. She was eating puppy food, and we were also supplimenting with yogurt and cottage cheese, but she still got it. Please have the vet check her calcium levels regularly. (I wish the vet had told me about this earlier). I wish you good luck! Keep us updated!

| Will this be your first litter or have you raised Yorkie litters before? You will sure have your hands full and the mom will need lots of quality nutrition. Is she eating puppy food now? We will sure be here to help if you have any questions. Congratulation and prayers that all goes well. |

| Eight puppies Wow that's exciting and scary at the sametime. I remember reading, I think last month, another litter of 8 puppies (maybe 9) being born. I just remember it being a huge litter. All were fine. I hope you have this luck as well. You could do a search in the nursery section, perhaps you can find that post. When is the due date and how big was the momma before getting pregnant? Best wishes and finger's crossed that everything goes perfectly. |
