Well, i don't use an ax!

There is no blood at all the way I do it. it is quick, simple and almost painless for the baby.

I always do my tails and dewclaws at 4 days. I think most vets will do them up to 6 days after birth, especially with the tiny ones.

Thank you bjh. I'm not a breeder nor do I intend to be, but I have a puppy coming the end of March and I was curious. I've just emailed the breeder to ask her if she does the dewclaws and docking.

Vets will only dock tails up to 5 days. anything over that becomes major surgery.Most like to do it 3-4 days old.

I'm not a breeder and am not cut out to be one. The squealing broke my heart too.

When I played the video, both dogs came charging into the room with horribly ferocious barks. They were ready to tear apart whoever was harming that puppy. They don't even bark that meanly when someone comes to the door!

I do my own. I find it's less stressful on my puppies then having to go to the vets so young and catch who knows what from other animals there.

I do not agree with docking at all...I'm so glad my Pixie has her tail...it's wonderful to see how she expresses herself with it...just how a dog is meant to.
I think it may have been banned in the UK...well, I know ALOT of Vets will not do it, I just find the whole thing barbaric...all in the name of 'fashion'
