| Our first time delivering babies Does anyone have any do's and don'ts.......must and must nots or just any suggestions. I have seen it done before, but it's not the same. My Vet is also aware. We saw her today and know that we are having "5" babies. I know that I break the membrain and cut the umbilical cord and then pinch it with baby powder and clean the baby off and make sure it is breathing then put on it's mom. Have I missed anything....or am I all wrong. I am so nervous and excited at the same time. __________________

| I believe you aspirate the pup first, then clean and stimulate the pup. Just make sure they are breathing... then you take care of the umbilical cord afterwards... I hope I'm right... Goodluck!

Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | Once the pup is out be sure to get the bag off the pups head first, clear out the nasal passages and mouth of any fluids, rub the pup with a soft towel to stimulate it's breathing, then mom do some of the cleaning up on it herself & let it nurse in between births. It's a great bonding time and helps stimulate the following contractions. Good luck and keep us posted. When are the pups due? We'll be watching and waiting to help if you have any questions while she is in labor. http://www.debbiejensen.com this is a great website for whelping information

| I hope all goes well. Make sure momma doesnt chew the cords too close, clean their mouth and noses out with a nasal sucker (not sure what it is called), and have a warm spot for them to lay. THey must at all times remain warm and not get cold, try to get them on momma's teats and sucking as soon as you can. After you see the water sack appear it could take some time for the puppies to show up or they could come fairly quickly. Remain calm and I hope all goes fine. |
