| Advice on a breeder Hi YT breeders, I am a few months away from getting my very first yorkie. I have done a LOT of homework (it's 2:30 am....I'm at it again, lol ) and have been searching for the perfect puppy for my family. I think I have found my breeder and my gut tells me that everything is good. I have asked opinions in the general YT forum and have gotten good feedback. But I would like to hear it from the professionals. Here is the website: www.yorkiekiss.com I think the only thing that concerns me is that the breeder is so young. She does not have years and years of experience and I dont believe that she shows her yorkies, but she seems to do this for the love of her yorkies...is this enough? I dont see any teacup yorkie redflags, but since this is my first, I dont know if my heart is decieving my brain. I am not in any rush (but I am anxious!). I have also heard on other pet websites that a good breeder does not have to advertise up and coming litters, but she does. The site she advertises on (kijiji) has a lot of byb's. I have been keeping my options open and have been looking at other breeders, but for one reason or another, I keep coming back to yorkiekiss. I live in a big city with lots of byb's/puppy mills and am scared of handing my money over to just anyone, and potentially getting a puppy that may have health issues that could have been avoided. Of all the homework I have been doing on my soon to be yorkie, this one seems to be the most important. I am not able to trust my gut completely, because a couple of years ago I was nearly scammed by one of those nigerian scammers offering to give me a gooooorgeous yorkie for free (you know the story, dont you)...lesson learned, but now I feel extra paranoid. This breeder is a 3 hour plane ride away so I may not be actually meeting her. The arrangement we have is that she will ship the puppy to me when she (puppy) is 12 weeks old. I will most likely not be able to fly there to get the puppy because I am going to be starting a new job in January and cant ask for the time off. On weekends my husband works and I have nobody to babysit my daughter...so unless I am able to get the day off work, the pup will have to be shipped. Anyways, sorry for the loooong story. I appreciate any input you have. |

| There are many great breeders here on Yt, I think you need to check them all out, that is start. Make a new thread, looking for breeders on Yt, and you will get lots of choices right on here. There is one from B.C that has made a comment on this thread also. Send her a Pm and see what she has for a pet yorkie, she is close by you. Also if you choose a puppy from the States, they can be shipped into Canada with no problems also. But first find a good breeder, that is honest, has the interest of the puppy's first and foremost. Hope this helps, pooh's mum |

| Thank you all for the advice. I am very disappointed because I thought I had done what I was supposed to as far as checking her out goes. This was my last step before sending my deposit literally this upcoming week. I am so thankful now that I have gotten such honest, quick feedback. I think what I will do is just keep looking, and put an ad in the for sale/wanted section. Thank you all once again, I believe you have saved me from a potential disaster. |

If you need any help what so ever there are so many on here that will suggest great breeders, that care where there puppies go, on here there are many that have small children. If you a responsible person/mother that teaches children to respect a yorkie, and treat that yorkie like your own child as you would protect you skin babies, then there are people that will sell with children. I have three nephew's that grew up with a yorkie and his brother was with their mom, ( my sister) and they were three young kids. Boys to boot. Good luck and please make a thread, you will get help I am sure., pooh's mum | |

| Her stud is adorable, but, is it me or is he still a puppy? She puts weight as "currently" 2 pounds and he still has white on his chest.

| I would contact the Canadian Kennel Club or YTCA for some reputable breeders. |

| I think I have decided that I am not going to buy from her. She honestly seems like a very nice person and I do trust her, but I think she is asking a lot for her puppies. I dont mind paying whatever is necessary, but after looking around some more, I think I can pay less and still feel confidant that I am getting a good dog from a good breeder. (Including shipping, one of her pups would cost me about $2000 - with no breeding rights, not that I would want them, but it seems high for a pet) I have done a lot of searches for local(ish) breeders, but none will consider us because of my daughters young age. That is something that I obviously have no control over. I may have to look across the border. Anyways, thanks to everyone for offering their opinions. I've heard more positive than negative, but the negatives are enough to make me think twice. |
