| For those of you with studs...question Ok my girl is a year old and I am looking to breed her. But I want to know what is usual. What terms is usual with a stud? Do I take the my girl to the stud? If so how long does she stay? Does the male come to me? I have issues with taking my baby and leaving her somewhere. How do I knwo they will take care of her? Is there a contract? What if i take my girl somewhere and they don't give her back or they hurt her? Ok I am being paranoid I guess, but there are so many thefts out there. I am nervous about it. I havent' found a stud yet, still looking. But I want to make sure I cover all my basis and know what to look for. Any help would be appreciated.

| stud I, also have issues with allowing a stud to leave my home...will you take care of him, what if he gets hurt or runs out the door, what if he won't breed for you or gets hurt during an unsupervised breeding.. ONLY deal with a professional who knows how and when to breed, how to protect your bitch, keep her safe and well cared for...ask the breeders for a vet reference and references from other clients...best wishes |

| Hi Tracy! I just had stud service performed Tuesday & Thursday for a lady who felt the same as you do about leaving her baby at someone's home. We simply met Tuesday evening signed contracts and exchanged information and had the deed done right there. This way, there is no worrying and leaving your baby behind and you're ensured the breeding process was complete. She came back on Thursday evening so we could complete the process again (just in case it didn't work the first time). If the dam does not become pregnant in 70 days and the lady gives me a note stating this from her vet she can return for an additional service. I do not suggest you have the stud brought to your home. The dam tends to handle the stress of being in a new environment better than the stud and it could cause complications of his performance. Hope this helped! Jenn

| Thank you so much! That does help. What should a contact state and how much should I be looking at for fees? What kind of tests should I be asking for? What kind should I have done to my girl?

My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | HI! I give the bitch owner the choice. I know how it feels to leave her with someone so I always let them choose. So far everyone, after coming to my home and meeting me, have chosen to leave their girl with me. I take many extra cautions having someone elses dog in my home. I actually had someone leave their girl longer than needed! 3 days extra as a matter of fact that and she wasn't even bred during that time! The own said she needed a vacation from her LOL (she was joking of course) I guess my advice would be to get to know the stud owner first. You'll know after meeting them if your confortable with leaving her. But no,l I'd never let someone take my male. Who's to say they wouldn't use him on someone else without me knowing? There is so much that could go on, you just have to know the person and TRUST them. Good luck!!! Quote:

I don't know what is expected, so I am glad I made the post. I like the idea of taking her (after I meet the person of course) and having it done at that time and then taking her again a few days later. Now if I was to take my girl to someone and leave her, what is the appropriate amount of time?

My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | No one will ever think your an idiot!!! You'll find everyone does it different. I normally try for 3 or 4 ties. I like to have the girl around day 9 and make sure she's flagging and accepting of the male. Give her a little time to adjust and get to know me. I've kept them from 5 days to a full week. |

| If you don't know what tests should be performed before breeding I would guess that your first step should be to do some studying. There is a ton of info that can be found on this site. I would not let a gal into my home without approving her first. She should come to an interview with her pedigree and papers, vets shot records, proof of brucellosis testing and that she is parasite free. I would evaluate her for both confirmation and temperment as well as making sure that the owner knows the basics or whelping and puppy rearing. There are so many pups out there now that are horrid representations of their breeds, I would never want to add to this growing problem. Make sure that your gal is an excellent example of her breed, is free of hereditary problemsand that you have learned all you can about whelping than find the perfect male to suit her.

And might I just say that it is concerns like these that make me glad that I own a stud and don't have to go seeking one. | |

| Thanks all! That is why I am asking. I want to do things the right way. The health and safety of my girl is my number one priority. I will search this site for helpful information. If anyone has anything else to add or wants to push me in the right direction as far as what to read up on first just let me know.

| When I studded out the person stayed, and came back the next day, and did it again. She paid half the money when we started, and the other half when she found out her girl was pregnant. I charged 500.00.
