You get alot of people that wouldn't dare share stories like these and let on that their breeding programs are anything less than picture perfect and textbook. And with good reason! As the dog world is political and people are catty and judgmental, sharing information like this often opens breeders up as 'targets' and gives people a chance to rip into them, tear them down, criticize them and attack them on a a very emotional level. It's often portrayed as a result of the breeder's negligence rather than what it really is--something unfortunate, unpreventable and a risk that always exists. (I know you understand what I mean.) And that is a shame.
IMO, more stories and experiences like this need to be shared. To make others aware and possibly keep them from going through the same--this seems to have already benefited one person, how many more will benefit from it? To let those considering breeding know the real truth and that it isn't always all fun and games--how many people will read this and use it as part of their decision to breed or not to breed rather than just the assuming it's all fun and games?
That is why I think it is so comendable that you are honest to share what is going to help so many and educate--all because you see the bigger picture and are more concerned about what is in the best interest of this breed in the long run.
That Girls, is why i leave it to the prof. breeders... stuff like that would turn me into a basket case !

I am happy to say little "Miracle" is now bouncing from 4.2-4.5 oz today she is two weeks old...eyes are still not open but she is thriving and a real eater...Hannah on the other hand is on food protest again...she will drink anything I give her but WILL NOT eat wet or dry food so back to force feeding her!!

Kim, you must be familiar with Lorraine Hayes of Pastoral. I remember once she wrote an article about getting her moms to eat after welping. She had one that would not eat a thing and she went to Kenny Kings got their chicken tore the skin off and any of her females that would not eat would eat that chicken. Not the best diet in the world but if they eat it's such a relief and they need the food more at that time than any other and little Hannah and all she has gone through surely needs to eat on her own again. She also did another thing I never heard of in my life and that is get them squirt whip cream if they were nursing. I would not mention this if Lorraine were not so well thought of in the breed. For what it may be worth!! 4.5 ozs for miracle baby woo hoo

Hey! Kim's been doing the chicken.....and everything else. Hannah will drink anything....goats milk, Esbilac....anything that is liquid...but it's the solids she's being stubborn about....

What the heck is 4.5oz of Miracle Baby Woo Hoo.

Oh Prayers are going out to you. Sorry you lost your 2 little boys. But Glad you had a gut feeling about your Hannah you are a terrific breeder. I am looking forward to seeing Miracle with her eyes open. Good luck getting Hannah to eat. Also Congratulations on your other litter. You had us all on the edge of our seats, I think with this one. My chelsea just had a C section on the 26th One boy. I knew she only had 1 (xray) so I scheduled the C section. Her's went good So I am thankful for that. I prayed she wouldn't go into labor early and have to have an emergency C section because he got stuck you could see he was a big puppy on the x ray. He weighed 4.7/8 ounces and now weighs 7 oz. So my prayers were answered too.
I am so glad you posted. Good Information!

4.7 ounces would have been a god send ...Mercedes largest she free whelped was 5.9oz I didnt worry too much sizes were 4.4, 4.8, 5.2 and 5.9 without an issue...Mercedes is 5.8 normal weight blessing me with a very simple delievery...

I believe Kenny King is like our US KFC...grease would be far too much I fear for her belly to handle at this time...

On a good note I mixed goats milk, egg yoke and karo yesterday she is eating or shall I say drinking that like crazy...so today I put her wet dog food in a bowl of the milk mixture let it sit for about 30 mins...once she tasted a bit of that she ate the rest out of my hand...so that is an improvement...
