My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | For thoughs of you who stud... I normally collect my fee at time of service when the bitch owner picks her up to go home. Talking with another local breeder today, she stated she does 1/2 down at time of service with the remaining due after the litter is born. I prefer to have payment in full after the service is performed. What is your practice? Thank you! Brenda |

| FULL FULL FULL payment at the time of the 1st tie. Normally the first day is to see the female and introduce her to my male. I get a copy of the bitches pedigree (normally i get a copy sent to my by email) but I want to make sure it is a true AKC certified copy, testing and shot records. If I approve the bitch, then I will set up another meeting for the stud and advise the fee must be paid at this time. Also, I must add, I need to make sure this person is breeding for the right reason and doing it correctly to the standars set by the YTCA and AKC. Lastly to go over the contract and make sure they will go on a spay/neuter contract.

My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | Great! Thank you. I always take payment at time of service as well but I know some do things differently. |

| My studs aren't for public use. But, all the breeders I know that do on a occassion...take payment in full at time of first breeding. If the breeding doesn't result in a litter, a repeat breeding is offered.

Off topic: I once used a stud for my Chi and this particular person did pick of the litter and also advised me that she would TAKE the one pup if only one was produced but would most likely do a repeat breeding because I seem like a nice girl. Needless to say I have destroyed any contact info on this person and hope she no longer has mine! Last edited by Breny; 11-16-2007 at 07:50 AM. | |

| One live pup in most cases do constitute a litter....(but, of course everyone's contract is different). If it were me I would prefer "payment" and not a puppy back.

| stud IMO one puppy is a litter..SINCE the bitch setermines the number and the sire determines the sex if the puppies...I do not like litter pick unless it is a long time friend who is a total professional...I do know shwo breeders I deal with a very professioanla nd never ask for the only puppy...they will give you the option to pay the stud fee and keep the pup..perhaps allow you to give them a puppy from the next litter or even another litter you may have etc... |

| litter A health stud can only fertilize the eggs that are ovulated...he may fertizile 6 and 4 implant and survive to whelping or all 6...or only one. Some bitches produce large litters no matter who they are bred with..others can be bred to a well proven stud and have one...most of my girls average out to a pattern in number...but some will have 5 and the next time 2...what I am saying is this, many things influence a litter and there is little way to predict...just a matter of averages. |
