| Maybe you could ask your vet for a reference? Or what about the breeder you got your babies from? |

| It really would be ideal to find a mentor that is close by to assist you.... Having experience with you really helps.

| No offense, I think you are definately taking the right steps to prepare yourself by searching for someone experienced to help you along your road to becoming a breeder, but it's not something that can be taught over the phone. It really is going to take some hands on experience in order to adequately familiarize yourself with the breed and the breeding process start to finish and all in between. You really cannot substitue that. |

| It might not be that easy... In my area, there are no members on the ytca site in my area code. In addition, I am joining at least one local Kennel club that supports 3 counties (i think it's 3) in my area but they don't have a single member who breeds/shows yorkies. I also am thinking of joining the next local club as they do a lot more including handling classes but they don't have anyone who breeds yorkies either. I'm still looking. I really want to try showing but am a little timid and would like a little guidance but I guess I might have to just give it a try on my own. Good Luck! |

| Where in MD are you, you can PM me if you like. I know a breeder/show/exhibitor in MD she has 2 toy breeds they are not Yorkies. I was in your shoes when I started. I had no one in my area to mentor me, but I did have a wonderful vet and I was fortunate to acquire some beautiful Yorkies. I was 5 hours away from the breeder I bought my first Yorkies from. It would be wonderful if you lived in the same area with your mentor because it would be easier. Deana Prestigeous |

| I don't know if this is possible for you.....But, before I attempted my first breeding, I assisted my mentor in several whelpings. When it came time for my first female to whelp...I packed both of us up and stayed with my breeder until the puppies were whelped....I figured that even though I assisted her in several whelpings...the female she had entrusted me with was just to precious....so, I wanted an expert there.

| One of the kennel clubs suggested that and I'm planning on going to their meeting this month and see what I can learn. Do you think another toy breeder would be able to give good advice about yorkies? I'm really more interested in showing at this point but looks like that might be the way I have to go.... |
