Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | Question on possible stud puppy I am in the market to purchase a male to use as a stud for Lexie's future litters. The breeder I got her from will be having a litter in a couple of months sired by Bingo, the male we used as Lexie's stud this time...I was going to purchase a male from that litter (if there is one) because I am looking for a small (4lb range) male for our stud and figured the odds were good for that using a puppy from a litter sired by Bingo. But in thinking about it more, I realized that the mother of that upcoming litter (Princess) has the same father as Lexie. Is that a problem? So to get that straight...Lexie and Princess are NOT from the same litter...do NOT have the same mother...but DO have the same father. Somewhere in there, the male puppy (future stud) would be kind of related to Lexie!!???!! Is that bad, or is the relation far enough back to be okay? I don't want to take any chances on whatever problems (inbreeding?) can cause...yet it is done, purposely?, for good reasons too???? I'm confused and your advice would be greatly appreciated.

| puppy The pedigree indicates a breeder who is inbreeding, are these well known Yorkies in the pedigree..that way you can check on health and quality...if these are her pets, I would look elsewhere..good luck |

| discuss with the breeder and see if she is knowledgable on the subject of linebreeding and inbreeding. you can also google the subject and read seminars given on genetics that are very detailed in the subject. the more educated you are about the subject, you will be able to determine if she is knowledgable and if she is considering all the aspects of inbreeding. educations is your best defence

| I would look elsewhere for a dog not related to yours. IMO, it's not worth it when their are plenty of quality dogs out there. Also, if you are looking for a future stud, you should look for a slightly older dog. It's really not possible to declare a male from an unborn litter or a young pup as a stud...you will not know if they have what it takes until they are older. (Not sure I explained that clearly...hope it makes sense.) |

| Lexie would be this pups Aunt. This would be linebreeding and would be permissible as long as both are excellent representations of the breed and the line has been studied thoroughly to know the possible faults that may be doubled up. The relative that they share should be excellent and have the qualities that you are trying to produce. I would never commit myself to a pup that is yet unborn, the choice of stud is just too important.

Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | Thanks all.....am deciding that I am not comfortable with the idea of an even slightly related stud, so will be looking elsewhere for my Lexie's little man. I appreciate all of your helpful comments.
