Default breeding and working

The two just do not mix at all.

OMG, so much time involved. I have seen me sleep on the floor for a few nights in a row in the whelping room before babies came, then one was so tiny, we had to tube feed her every two hours night and day for two weeks. Had we not done that she would not have made it.. I tell you it took both my husband and myself to do this and do it right, make sure we were both awake enough to sterlize what we needed before and after feedings, and make sure it was right on at the two hour mark to tube feed. Baby would suckle but only for a minute so soon began to dehydrate so we had no choice, so we tube fed, let her suckle for her minute and then she slept. If we left her alone she would sleep as least 4 hours.

You need to be willing to do this if you ever needed to do so. One cannot tube feed by day and sleep all night if baby is going to survive. Every two hours night and day for two weeks is not much sleep let alone have to go to work also. Lucky to get one hour inbetween feedings.

And I would sure never have three whelping close together. One litter can keep me busy enough. For then you still have the other dogs that need your time attention and care.

This is only one prime example for you to have something to think about. I do know there are people that do breed and work, not sure how.

You may also want to consider how difficult it will be to find the perfect home for 3 litters worth of puppies. You could end up with 15 pups and it will take quite a while to place that many. Also if you only breed your gals once a year what are you going to do with the rest of your year? Why do you want to do it all at once? I would definitely spread it out so that you can give each the quality time that the bitch and pups deserve.

I made the decision recently to start breeding...and pretty soon I'll have three pregnant females.

It sounds like she has already made the decision to breed these girls, I pray they will all be safe and find great homes. What more can we do? But maybe we have given her words for thought, It is not easy to do what you are planning. I hope you have lots of good help.

My vet recommends not taking them out until after the 2nd set of shots. He said their feet shouldn't touch the ground outside until then.

Hello everyone, I know this is not a big deal or anything, but I just wanted to let you know that I DID NOT make the other posts in this thread. I had a friend over at my house and she made posts under my name. I was quite upset with her...and I didn't notice any of this until I was PMed something about it and was confused. I still don't have a "good" reason as to why my "friend" posted this question and responses...

I am sorry for any confusion this has caused. I PMed admin but they can't delete the thread. Please disregard. Thanks.

I wonder if the "friend" will come back asking advise in 63 days with 15 puppies.

Oh and one more thing...I am actually in a similar situation as she is...and I'm about to start breeding...but my mentor is someone I have taken the time to get to know over the last few months very well...and I would NEVER breed three at one time...NEVER NEVER NEVER...and I told her that...she didn't like my personal advice to her so I guess that's why she used my name to ask the opinions of others. WOW...what a surprise!!! EVERYONE ELSE AGREED!!! Sorry again guys.

Well I do have a full time job and breed only one litter a year. Usually the litter is born in the summer time when I"m off work. You see, I work at the schools and I'm off in the summer time Also, if I were to have a litter during the school year my job is really flexible. I'll take off from work so working a full time job can be done but you have to have it worked out with your place of employment or I wouldn't be breeding. My husband also works only 5 minutes from the house and he comes home and checks on them regularly when there is a litter. I have 2 healthy 4 month olds and they were born when I was off for the summer Oh and I've had a litter in the winter but was able to be home for a week to take care of them and would have taken off longer if a problem would have arised. Thankfully that hasn't happened to me yet (notice I said yet).
Anyway, it is a full time job raising a litter and so that means I have 2 full time jobs. I could never, never have more than one litter at a time. OMG it would drive me over the edge LOL.
Just my input.

Well your right it can be done, if you have the right job, and are not whelping three litters within a 3-4 week period.
Schools, government jobs, jobs like that are always flexabile..but not all have those kinds of jobs.
You then also need a spouse that is right there for any help at the same time.
But most normal people that work full time, cannot do this at all without putting a litter in jepardy.

Thank goodness there will not be three pregnant yorkies at once. I was raised breeding dogs as my mom bred bull dogs and small dogs.

I think one litter a year is plenty unless you breed as a full time job. I stay at home and would have lost my Mandy if I had not delivered her last puppy for her with her first litter. I actually reached in and pulled the puppy out and all was well but she would have died if I had not been home. The puppies are now three years old and all did well.

Krissy had a problem with her second litter and I was there to help. Six puppies wore her out. I actuall cleaned up the last one as she was just to tired. Again all turned out well.

I cannot imagine more that one litter at once unless you had lots of help!
