..☆..Pests..☆.. Posted 05-09-2008 at 01:37 AM by KitKatJam I have these lyrics stuck in my head. "Put me in the hospital for nerves, and then they had to commit me. You told them all I was crazy, they cut off my legs now im an amputee, damn you!" What a day it was for me yesterday, I swear I want Lyric to live like the bubble boy but wear a helmet. Since he's been home I've brushed and combed him twice a day, the day before I decided to skip combing and brushing him to give him a bit of a break. BIG MISTAKE..he was horrible biting at the brush and screaming at the top of his lungs, I knew that it didnt hurt because 1. I didnt brush his coat dry, for now I use a 1/2c of water with a 1/4tsp of organic oil (not cooking oil, human product hair oil) mixed in a spray bottle. 2. I was using a baby brush to brush his topknot. There is no way that was hurting, to further confirm the fact that it didnt hurt, he eventualy fell asleep and I finished brushing/combing without a problem. But all thats not the issue, when I took his harness off and was about to brush the hair on his belly, I saw something gray, I touched it and looked closer and wondered "Is this what a tick looks like" I'm scared of all bugs, doesnt matter how big or small. I put him down and took a deep breath, I have no clue how to get a tick off, never even seen a tick before. But I did it got the tweezers and pulled, taking out some of his tummy hair in the process, dont worry he didnt flinch when I pulled the hair out. I put the tick in a bowl with some water/oil had it handy since I was giving myself a hot oil treatment for my hair, watched it swim around and eventualy die. I called the vet in a panic and was told to wash the area with antibacterial soap which I did, and if it gets red and swollen, warm to touch bring him in ASAP for antibiotics. Thank god he is fine, no redness no nothing, I actualy cried because this poor tick was on him and I didnt know. I saw him scratch a bit (not a lot) and I thought it was because I put a harness on him for the first time. Oy..Actualy I think the harness saved him from getting bit because the tick was laying on its side and didnt go head first into the skin. It started to after I took the harness off and sat him down when I first saw it but I pulled it before it did damage. After I get calmed down from that my bf comes home from work, I'm in the bedroom and walk out to see that he left the front door open. I see something flutter past and say Oh my god is that a mosquito, he said nope just a moth, needless to say it was a mosquito and after I saw it again we both went to get it turned around for tissue and it was gone, we moved the couch, dismantled some furniture and still couldnt find it. I called 5 different emergency vets in 5 different states to get an opinion, they all told me not to worry, if he is getting on heart worm monday, if he did get bit the worm should die, everyone said dogs get heartworm from a severe infestation like living outside and being exposed. I dont know how well I believe that because this happened around 8:45pm and its now 4:30am and I'm wide awake, paranoid that he's going to get bit and I'm going to miss it because I'm asleep. So thats where those lyrics above come into play. I already have bad enough anxiety, I sware that one of lyric eyes look bigger than the other, he has an over bite, he is way to skinny. ^I'm just glad that my vet is very helpful and welcomes questions and doesnt mind if you stop by to get your animal weighed, she doesnt charge you an office fee each time you walk in. And even when Lyric came home I had to change his initial wellness check several times do to bad timing of pick up between the breeder and I. They didnt freak, but I still think my vet thinks I'm a little nuts, as well as my bf and my mother who said "poor lyric is never going to get to go outside again right?" Oh the tick..he was laying on the sidewalk near the grass in the sun..Never again Total Comments 0 Comments
