My 19 year old Grandaughter fell in love with a Yorkie puppy and bought him not realizing how much care he would need. Fast Forward to 2 years. She finally realized he was more than she could handle and gave him to us. He is not housebroken. He does not bark. She gave us everything that she had including the crate she tried to use. I am trying to train him this way by taking him out every 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours. It works if I get him to go out. My concern is he doesn't know enough to bark to let me know he has to go. He does whine a little and if I hear him I go to get him out. Now he knows what the crate is and he resists getting in there. How do I convey that he needs to let me know somehow.

Up Against The Wahl

That's me, up against the Wahl. Poor little Sassy, the innocent victim of my desire to make sure my baby is not mistreated and...I admit...to also save money. Although, saving was truly secondary to not wanting her at a groomer.

It is most likely over-reaction on my part (see? I admitted that too). But Sassy is such a cooperative little girl! She will let you do anything to her that doesn't hurt. So when I saw the groomer being what I thought was a bit too rough (translated: not as gentle as I thought she should have been)....I decided to try to groom her myself.

This is not easy! In fact, it is pretty overwhelming. That is why my baby has some of her hair cut and some not. One leg and one foot are done (I'm sorry, baby, I'm sorry!) and both of her sides. That's it! I gave up. I definitely need that video. If I had any sense I would have gotten the video *before* the Wahl. But you know how it is. The video has to be ordered on-line and the Wahl was right here in town. So there I go again, getting my cart before my horse.

I am not going to post any photos yet. I will when the job is finished. But I will tell you that if anyone were to ask me about this grooming thing, I would most definitely very strongly advise the horse before the cart.

I am very glad that she doesn't realize what I have done to her. I may just feel like it is necessary to let her get manhandled one last time at the groomers. :p

My poor, poor baby. :(

I knew it was coming. It always does. Triple digits. I feel like the Wicked Witch of the West..."I am melting, I am melting!" Don't get me wrong. I love the sun. I need the sun and I want the sun. I just wish it would back up just a little. LOL I feel like it is right on top of the valley.

Poor Sassy cannot even go outside although she wants to. I do let her out with me in the evenings a bit, but even after the sun goes down (like now) it is still a hundred degrees out there.

We had some curbing installed in the front yard and the back yard. We ordered it done in plenty of time so that we would have some decent weather to work in while we 'finished' it off. Putting down the landscaping weed deterrent paper stuff, hauling pea-gravel...backbreaking work. Did they get it done in an expedient time frame? NO! Did it take over two months for them to get it right? YES! That's why we are here dealing with this strenuous physical labor in triple digit temperatures! Thanks a lot, I say.

We found these guys at a home show. They had a display. We liked it. Called and ordered it done. Now, if I had known this is just a business 'on the side' for them, I never would have done it with them. It cost us nearly a thousand dollars and lots of grief and headaches to get it done right. **SIGH** I mourn the passing of 'Pride in Workmanship'....I didn't go to the funeral. Pride in Workmanship died without me even knowing it. One day Pride was there and then one day Pride was gone. So I am still in mourning the passing of Pride.

Then I decided that I needed a garden wagon. I looked on e-bay first. I found quite a few there. They all cost about the same but the product price and the shipping cost varied quite a bit. One was $64.99 for the wagon and $19.99 for the shipping. Hmmm. Another was $48.00 for the wagon and $29.34 for shipping. What's with that. You would think the shipping rates would be near the same? I decided to go with Lowe's and got it for $59.00...not the same one though but it will do the same job. And guess who LOVES the wagon more than me? My Sassy. She wanted in so I put her in. She did not want to get out. So I took her for a ride down the block and she absolutely loved it. My husband said she won't be getting any exercise that way. No, she won't but she will be getting happiness! That works for me. LOL Here she is:

My first visit as a therapy doggie....

Well finally after a year and a half our journey has taken us to this past Thursday, July 3, 2008 when Izzy and I finally had our first therapy visit at the Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital. Our official program name is Paws for Care...isn't that cute?

We went through so much training and studying and me getting two TB tests, and I must say our first visit was amazing. I think I was more nervous than Izzy.

We got to the hospital and met with our Delta leader (Robin). Robin will be with us for at least 3-5 visits before we go solo). Robin was so patient with us and I think the hard part is getting to know the lay of the land of the hospital. It's so big and we are only allowed to go to certain areas like any waiting room like the surgical waiting rooms, rehab acute and their waiting rooms, all of the pediatrics floor if the kids are not allergic to dogs or getting a breathing treatment we can't see them. We can go to all the main area of the hospital and even the physical therapy department.

We where at the hospital for over an hour (you can tell Izzy was getting tired so it looks like an hour is about what we can do with her at this time). We visited with about 7 patients and it was so heartwarming to know that we brought a little joy into their day.

Izzy was a little nervous at first and always looking to her mommy for reassurance when we put her on the patients lap (she has to stay on a towel and we must ask the patient permission if they want her on their lap). Well they all loved her (patients and staff - especially the nurses!). We must put a clean towel on each patient's lap and we must provide each person who pets Izzy with an open towlette for handwashing. The hospital provides both.

The only time we were nervous is when we visited one patient with dimenshia and she was a little rough petting on Izzy for a while but then I stepped in (and put my hand in between hers) and we both petted Izzy (I was trying to keep her hand pressure on my hand vs. Izzy's head)..lol.

Most of the women patients did not want us to leave but Izzy's tolerance level seemed to be about 10 minutes on everyone's lap and then wanted to move on except for this one patient whom Izzy really liked and wanted to camp out on her blanket and sleep.

It was so gratifying for me to be able to bring some smiles to all their faces. We can't wait to go back.

Oh and it was so funny it takes us more time to sign in and sign out since everyone who sees Izzy wants to stop and pet her! From people just walking the halls, patients in wheel chairs, doctors, nurses, volunteer staff, visitors, cleaning people, etc.

Oh and Izzy was not afraid of any noises like the elevator or loud cleaning machines (since the time we went the night crew was polishing the floors with those huge waxers). I figured she would be good with the noises since she is not afraid of the vacuum at home or loud noises when I drop my cooking pots on the floor.:D

So that's our first day at the hospital visiting and we'll be going back soon.

I always thought it was cute that Jack, my 4-pound Yorkie, and Rusty, my 50-pound Lab, got along. They sleep next to each other. Rusty sticks up for Jack. ...

But this week, I discovered why. They are gay. When I rolled Rusty on his back to put some ear drops in his ears, Jack took advantage and mounted him! And Rusty didn't protest.

I have no problem with their decision. I was just surprised. I wonder if neutering is considered "safe sex?"

Buyer Beware of LA Breeder with no warranty.

My friend and I made the mistake of purchasing pups online from a breeder that we thought to be reputable. Ads say champion bloodlines, raised in our home with love and warranty provided. Ad also stated good pet or breeder.
We found out that you never buy a pup from a breeder without reading their warranty first.
I am not into bashing and will just provide facts.
Her warranty states: Parvo, Distemper, Adenovirus, Parainfluenza and Bordetella are NOT covered.
Color, confirmation, reproductive ability, testicles decending, potty training ability, temperment, improper bite, coat, trachea problems, low blood sugar, internal parasites and external parasites, luxating patellas, loose stools, and coccidia or any other condition that can be corrected by a Vet is NOT COVERED.
This is the real shocker!!!
No guarantee is given on this puppy if any shots, worming or medications of any kind are administered to him within 72 hours of receiving the puppy. (but you are required to have him examined by a Vet within 72 hours of receiving him)
Now both pups needed to be treated for ear mites, coccidia and loose stools/vomiting upon receiving them, but we canceled our warranty because we allowed our Vet to treat the sick
pups. We did not receive the warranty or as I call it lack of warranty until one month after receiving the pups.
Would like to have your responses as to what to do.

My babies are 15 weeks and georgous and should be ready to go to a new home...I'm having such a hard time parting with any one of the three. Their mother, Sydnee, died when the babies were just 2 days old and I'm the stand in ..on a 24/7 basis. I'm looking for a very special home for BJ - she's such a lover and very gentle. Little Bandit is only 2#s and very active - Zoee is 2#2ozs. and will be silver. Pictures coming.

i'm so excited for tomorrow. show off my cute adorable doggy!
though i'm sure there's going to be jerks who will make fun of his outfit but i'll make fun of theirs in return.

i'm so sick of romeo going to the potty in his kennel i've tried everything. so i took down the boxes blocking most of his kennel and just put in a pillow and a puppy pad. atleast this way he stays clean and i can hold him throughout the day. *sigh* my silly little boy.

i love him.

I am just so very happy with this little girl. I finally found a harness that fits her. I was at Target and saw these AKC harnesses and there on the box it said toy so I got it and the leash and the collar. I bought quite a few things for Friday but only one thing for myself. As of 2 days ago both ears are up yeah! She is perfectly content in her pen and sleeps throigh the night in her crate. She is very social and just loves attention.Attachment 53 (http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=53)
