Potty Training Bailey
Hi everyone! I just became a Yorkie
mommy last week. Bailey is now 9.5 weeks old and she is really having a hard time with her potty training. I first tried to take her outside, but the grass tickles her belly and she will hop off immediately. I went to the pee pee pads next. I am putting her on the pads when she wakes up, after she eats, after she plays, etc. She will sniff around but then she runs and goes anywhere but the pad. I tell her "NO, Bailey!" in a stern voice and place her back on the pad, but she is not buying it. I know that training is a not an immediate thing, but I have potty trained my other dogs and they have been a little more perceptive. After a week and a half with little or no progress, training Bailey has become a full time job. Are Yorkies difficult to train? Are there any other methods that are better? I am open to any suggestions. Anyway, I'll keep you posted on her progress.

| | I'm a new Yorkie mom too I got 2 from the same liter. They are such a handful! But so worth it Potty training has been a big issue too. We got them at 9 weeks. They are now 12 weeks and not potty trained at all and we really stay on them. I just got advice from a lady whos dogs are fully trained on the potty pads. She said the key is to put it in a place they frequently go already, and they will begin to get the concept after awhile to where you can move around the pad and they will only go on it. My 2 rugrats tend to have a million places they "love" to go, so I'm not sure how to do this myself. Right now I have about 4 potty pads throughout the house. The boy, Murphy, actually went twice on them yesterday! Yay! I'm not sure whether this was luck or if he's kind of getting it. All I know is that when I see it I immediately grab their treats and reward/praise them like crazy. I'll let you know how this goes, but this is what I'm trying. |
