| HELP My neighbors dogs are Horrible! I'm in the middle of buying a house and cant close for a few weeks on the house. So to save money for fancy things and upgrades for my house I'm staying with family for the last two weeks. The neighbors are horrible hear or am I over reacting?I'm not used to having neighbors as our last hose we had was out in the stixs and had none thank god really miss it right now!Do I need to learn how to have neighbors or are these ones just wrong or am I? We have 4 neighbors!!First off I'd like to say I do not hate pitbulls! Two of or neighbors are to the side of which have privacy fence and both have pitbulls and a poodle. They are respetful to me have big dogs, but love them enough to take care of them.If you love your dog you PROTECT YOUR DOG right? The two neighbors behind us we are having issues with.Their houses property back yards both hit our property line. One of them has 4 pitbulls 2 mixes and two huge ones in their back yard always? Two of which are always chained up and it sounds like they are fighting and yelping afterwards! When I walk out side back to the chain length which is considered on our property(WE are staying with relatives who's relatives own our home and property).Hope that not too confusing...the property is our family's property and they put the fence in. Ok, so when i walk back to check on these dogs that sound like they are fighting they all turn and bark at me,but seem to not have blood or anything on them and ok other than the fact that two of them are chained up :/.The only one with collars on are the two chained up all with no TAGS!!???Other than them barking at me and my dogs and maybe contagious that's my issue. The other neighbor is a down right UGH!!Their dog names TEXAS a 60 or more stalk pitbull RUSHES UR FENCE like it is going to come through it!The owner comes out and she will stand in the back yard and scream TEXAS o TEXAS come here. The dog does not listen and continues to rush the fence at my SMALL VERY SMALL dogs!!!This dog wants to come through the fence very frightening and its owner cant even come grab it by its collar (no TAGS EITHER) and come get it??She stands no joke 4 to 5 feet form it watching it ram the fence and barking very threatening like it is going to eat me and my dog!She has said before o I'm so sorry,But if she is so sorry why cant she get her dog?Is she afraid of it too?She could just as easy walk up grab her dogs collar and bring it inside? Our even better put her own fence up and stop having her dog charge ours here. Its trying to tear our fence down!My dogs go out very shortly and want to go right back in.They do their business and they want right back in.This crazy dog is bending the fence out!So now I have set up a huge SECURED run and a large play pen to my back door so they can go outside and not be around these bad dogs. That could have fleas,Ticks,Parvo,Kennel cough who knows!!My dogs have all their shots and kennel cough, flea preventives. The kennel cough only protects your dog from catching phenomena! We are only here for a few more weeks hopefully staying with family in this house. No one in the house has a dog just a cat.I'm the only one with dogs here.. Our new house we are buying is also COMPLETELY chain length fenced, front and back,But I plan on privacy fencing the whole back yard INSIDE the chain length fence. Because our neighbor behind us in our soon to be new house in a WAY BETTER Neighbor hood has a VERY WELL taken care of friendly lab- pit who is also chained in its back yard ,but its friendly and seems happy and not left all day long chained. Not aggressive at all clean and has tags and seems pretty loved. Not everyone can be overly obsessed with there dogs like me I guess :P I share the home with my fur babies. So i'm not really wanting to start a neighborhood WAR calling animal services and what not for the next few weeks I'm here as,I have had some choice words with the girl since it has happened more times than I can count, but I feel I should and want to badly am I over reacting?I don't want this thing to eat my dogs!I haven't cursed the neighbor women/girl out she is around 27ish...but I have asked her why she wont grab her dog for her to only ignore me and giggle sorry sorry o sorry and I have retorted off in response to her giggles Well do u want me to Call animal control only for her boyfriend to scream back at me this is my yard and me retorting back THIS IS MY FENCE YOUR DOG IS DESTROYING! I have them now secure and far away from the back of the yards, but what if it breaks through the fence and comes into our yard and try's to break into my dogs pen!I'm always outside with my dogs always.I have no children just my fur children and they are VERY much so my children lolz not just dogs....Its pretty sad I have to watch my dogs play in a pen now instead of run around in the huge back yard here till we close on our home! |

| so far the only legal thing I can find so far is this...But if I did call animal control the pitbulls would be killed right? The Animal services here is slap full of ptbulls and tons that die everyday that no one wants ..I just don't want the one Texas pitbull to hurt no one or no ones dogs! Its owner obviously dose not give a crap about it for not wanting to take care of it and protect it!I feel if you own a aggressive dog that wants to tear your neighbors fence down for their dogs and them you should have a proper fence for it at least for its safety and everyone's! Barking at strangers.*** If a dog, usually kept in the house or a fenced yard, barks at strangers but has never threatened a person, its owners will probably not be liable if it bites someone. (See, for example, Slack v. Villari, 476 A.2d 227, cert. denied, 482 A.2d 502 (Md. 1984) and Collier v. Zambito, 1 N.Y.3d 444 (2004).) Threatening people***. A dog that often growls and snaps at people who come near it when out in public, but hasn't ever actually bitten someone, is a different case entirely. The dog's actions should put its owner on notice that the dog might bite someone. If the dog does bite, the owner will be liable. (See, for example, Fontecchio v. Esposito, 485 N.Y.S.2d 113 (1985).) Frightening people***. If a dog likes to run along the fence that separates his yard from the sidewalk barking furiously, or chases pedestrians or bicyclists, the owner may be liable if the dog causes an injury. At least one court, however, has ruled that an owner wasn't responsible for foreseeing that a barking dog could frighten someone so much she would run into the street. (Nava v. McMillan, 123 Cal. App. 3d 262 (1981).) Fighting with other dogs***. If a dog that is gentle with people has a history of fights with other dogs, that's probably not enough to put the owner on notice that the dog might bite a person. Courts usually recognize that canine society has its own rules, and the way a dog behaves under them isn't a reliable predictor of how it will act toward humans. (As one court put it, the “question was the dog's propensity to attack a human. The canine code duello is something else. That involves the question of what constitutes a just cause for battle in the dog world, or what justifies a resort to arms, or rather to teeth, for redress.” (Fowler v. Helck, 278 Ky. 361 (1939).) Complaints about the dog***. If neighbors or others complain to the owner that a dog has threatened or bitten someone, the owner would certainly be on notice that the dog is dangerous. But in one Alabama case, where a dog's owner had been scolded by a neighbor for having a dog that was a "nuisance," the court ruled that the owner did not have any knowledge that his dog was dangerous. (Rucker v. Goldstein, 497 So. 2d 491 (Ala. 1986).) Last edited by Smitten4Yorkies; 03-06-2013 at 01:31 PM. |

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | Some people just should not have animals. Its not your place to say anything, you are only a guest. It is up to your family member who own the home to report them. And if it were me I would. In a minute. If the dogs are doing damage to their property than they need to report it and take them to court for repairs. Plus part of being a responsible pet owner is providing adequate shelter, vet care and making sure that they have tags. If they are not doing that than reporting them is in the best interest of the dogs. Be careful during the remainder of your time there, I would keep your pup leashed at all times. Better to be SAFE than SORRY !

| Sorry that you all going through this. I don't know what to tell you to do. A while back a neighbor who was only renting there house left their dog. I went and fed it everyday for almost a month as well as some of my neighbors throwing leftovers over the fence. Finally, one neighbor came to me and said what are we going to do with this dog . He was digging holes under the fence. I couldn't get near the dog... I got to where I were throwing 15lb bags over the fence every 3 days. Finally, I called animal control and they picked up the dog that day but wouldn't have IF the house wouldn't have been empty. Finally, the previous renter wrote me a message on Facebook telling me I had no right and when they went to court... They took someone with them who said they were feeding the dog. They didn't ask me to go to court or I could have proven with a camera that was on my house no one ever came. They turned the dog over and got dismissed.

| You are not going to be there for very much longer...like you said, if you call Animal Control, you are going to xause a neighborhood war...possibly make it tough on the family members you are staying with....I would let it go....tolerate the bad behavior from the dogs in the neighbors yard, and then you will be gone and the neighborhood will continue on like it has for years before you came! Keep your babies safe, in the little secured area you have fixed up for them.....it is not a permanent thing for you, so let it go. NOW, if one of the vicious dogs gets into the back yard where your dogs are, THEN you can justifiably start trouble.....what those barking, loud, irritating dogs do in their own yard, I dont think you have any control over...I know they have laws about chained dogs in some States, but you dont want to start any trouble now......you may get little "meat balls with poison" rolled up inside, tossed over your fence as a "Thanks for starting trouble" or like I had, fish hooks tossed into the yard for your babies to get hooked in....let it go....they can make YOU alot more miserable than you can make them, and you are not there for much longer. |

All I can do is protect my little ones and stay clear of the mess it would cause. They are doing well in their pen I have made them.I stay at home all day allot with my disabilities so we have tons of cuddle and play time inside. The pen is far away from the chained dogs out side and still I find a flea dead every now and again on my fur babies >.<.I'm thinking of sprinkling some 20 team borax around the inside of our fence to kill the fleas a little faster or going to lowes and getting some kinda sprinkle pesticide safe for the animals still. It just stinks even if animal control was called. The dogs could still be left their since the owner still lives with the dogs and the chains are the right length.I don't see any food or water or shelter, but they would probably just get a warning for that and start a neighbor hood war over it.They don't seem to be understanding nor friendly people at all! | |

Plus, I found out from my neighbor behind us (the one I like) that the other neighbor to the left of us (the one I dont like, who is a Sheriff off.) fed our dog hot dogs with Laxatives. Talk about being Hot... I was livid. But what can I do. He's that law not to mention a pri*k. Plus I have no evidence. I need to get a camera set up too. Point it right at his house. This is the same idiot who mows his lawn with his gun straped to his hip and is too lazy to walk the dog in the winter so he just opens the front door and lets the dog crap on his porch. What a nice little surprise for the mail man.

I have visited the new neighbors at our house about 6 times now.I don't think they think I'm too crazy yet hehe. No one has run from me yet :P one even offer to cut the grass for me when we move in!I stopped to talk to the neighbor across the street from where we will live and another neighbor came walking up to introduce himself even. They all seem pretty nice and layed back, but in a good way.I'm still putting up cameras lolz and I told them all too.I just feel safer with them around on my side for anything really. My mom has them all 5 around her house never has had to use them, but nice in case she did have too.We had a lab and Rottweiler 9 months old that was poisoned and died back in the 90's so ever since then my mom has had the cameras just in case.If some one is wicked enough to ham a defenseless animal they dang sure wont mind harming a humane is how we figure it. You would think that I'd feel safer with a sheriff living next door to us, but in this case not so much.

| Why is it that a lot of owner's of dog aggressive dogs are worse than their dogs? I have a friend that owns 2 pits. She has a fenced-in yard as do the neighbors on either side of her. My friend has also put up another 6-foot fence to make it a double chain link fence. The neighbors on either side have small dogs. She never sends her dogs out unsupervised, and if one of the small dogs is out the pits are put into a covered kennel run on the side of the house. These dogs have never shown any aggression towards people or other dogs and they both just ignore the small dogs even if they are barking at them. My friend believes in that old saying, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure". Too bad all dog owners weren't this responsible there would be far less maulings of dogs and people. There's nothing wrong with owning pits, rotties and other dog/people aggressive breeds, but be aware of how much damage these dogs can cause and be responsible with them!

| When we had a huge german shepherd and our neighbor had a rather large boxer the two dogs would run up and down the long length of the fence barking their silly heads off. It was a game to them but it annoyed the hell out of everyone within earshot. Fortunately the neighbor agreed to taking turns letting the dogs out so they weren't in their back yards at the same time. We had within the even hour and they the odd. We also had set times when the two dogs could both be out enjoying their games. I don't know if you can do that with the neighbor with the "charging" dog but maybe you could at least talk to her? Good luck. |

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | My friend has a pit, a Maltese, a XXL pit and a toy poodle. I have to tell you the biggest trouble maker is the toy poodle. She is the leader. LOL it is funny to see the pack move with her in front. A person stopped their car and wanted to save the poodle from the evil dogs chasing her. We got a big laugh when we told him that she was the alpha in the house. And they were her pack. I would by your time until you move out. Good luck in your new home
