Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Obama Approves Slaughtering And Eating Horses From article: President Obama just legalized horse slaughter for human consumption. Yup. That means the president says we can now kill and eat horses. Gross. The bill was signed into law right before thanksgiving. So Obama will pardon two turkeys but only after sentencing 120,000 to 200,000 horses to death. The slaughtering of horses was originally illegal only because there weren't any finances to support the inspection of horses in transit and the slaughter houses. But now there apparently are enough finances. So even though 70% of Americans are against horse slaughter, and Obama made a campaign promise to permanently ban horse slaughter, he still signed the bill. Seems dishonest to us. (end article)

| Its sickening! Why does anyone need to eat horse meat. He might as well legalized the eating of cats and dogs. Its that ridiculous

| What!?! Wow. And why would this even be necessary from any point of view? What is the ratio of cows to people in this country, along with chickens, pigs, fruits & veggies? Wth? It's not like we're in a famine & starving to death-which would be the only way I could justify it-life or death. Very disappointing!

| They had the choice to ban export for slaughter or to reinstate inspections to slaughter here, and they chose to condone slaughter here and not ban exportation for slaughter. I thought Washington was appalled at Sarah Palin's hunting expeditions from helicopters (as was I). I don't understand what makes slaughter of horses for human consumption any more pallatable (so to speak).

| Now I REALLY don't like him. I will be signing anything that bans slaughtering of any kind. Horrible.

| Pretty sick isnt it?? Just when I thought my opinion of Obama couldn't get any lower. The absolute horror these precious animals face when they are shipped for slaughter is enough to keep me up at night. So now there will be even horses sent to this horrific fate. I'm so disgusted right now.

| But as far as the US. The bill approves horse slaughter here right? I doubt there is much demand for it here. Not saying that this is ok with me, but this is my thinking. If he approves the slaughter then it must be regulated right? If it's not regulated then if someone wants horse meat, they would have to get it via black market I suppose, like illegal drugs? I know it's no comparison, but like how some want marijuana legalized so it can be regulated and taxed.

| There were a few countries listed on what I read. "Most of the meat would be shipped to countries in Europe and Asia, including France and Japan." Horse Meat Inspection Ban Lifted In The U.S. DH said he also heard it was meat that they eat in the Muslim countries. Not sure of this one, just what he had heard. From what I found on Google it looked like it was forbidden. A lot are saying this is to help the economy. Not caring about any of the horses. I did read there are some groups that are ready to get involved. Hopefully they will help in doing something about this.
