Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Rick Ross Accused in Gruesome Yorkie Death Rick Ross Accused in Gruesome Doggy Death | TMZ.com Rick Ross Accused in Gruesome Doggy Death 6/29/2011 1:00 AM PDT by TMZ Staff The blood of an adorable 3-year-old Yorkie named Banks is on Rick Ross' hands ... according to a lawsuit filed against the rapper. Banks' owner is suing Ross -- claiming 3 pitbulls escaped from Rick's mansion in Atlanta back in April ... entered her property and ferociously attacked her tiny pet Yorkshire Terrier. According to documents obtained by TMZ, the yorkie suffered "3 large bite wounds on his back " along with a "very large bite wound" around his neck. Cops were called to the scene -- and officials managed to free Banks ... but his wounds were so extreme, that the owner had no choice but to euthanize her beloved companion. Investigators eventually cited Ross for the incident -- but the owner wasn't satisfied so she filed suit, demanding Ross fork over $15,000 in damages and court costs. We're told the owner is especially upset because Ross has NOT apologized for the incident. Calls and emails to Rick's camp have not been returned.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I should add - I hesitated to post this since it mentions pit bulls. I'm totally against Breed Specific Legislation.

| Just horrifying! I don't think any of us (at least here at YT) would blame "pits" but the owner, Ross. It just kills me when ppl get these poor dogs bc of their appearance but do not spend the time training them, working w them, socializing them, or properly supervising them. Unfortunately, there is a big difference in a poorly socialized 5 lb dog and a poorly socialized 100 lb dog. In addition, some ppl tease and mistreat them to "toughen them up". This whole situation is heartbreaking. I am glad the owner of the yorkie is trying to hold Ross responsible and is trying to teach him there are consequences to such irresponsible pet ownership.

| This is just so horrible!! I know there are "good" pit bulls, but just too many are not trustworthy, and most attacks like this are from the pit bulls. I never hear of other large dogs attacking anyone or another animals as often. I'm not a big fan of this breed and am certainly getting tired of hearing, "it's not the dogs fault, it's the owners". BULL!! Pit Bulls DO have a very higher prey drive than most other dogs, and way too many DO carry it out to the fullest! You can't ignore all the articles about Pit Bull attacks to not know they are not to be trusted. One never knows when they will snap.

| I've got an idea. Put Rick Ross down. He obviously is scum and doesn't care. Not even a sorry? Ignorant. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Yes, but this is true of all breeds of creatures (including human). It doesn't mean we should outlaw a creature or a breed/race (including human) because they have a higher or different propensity to 'snap'. IMHO. It is important to educate on what can cause higher propensities to snap, in humans or other creatures. It's also important to punish appropriately for dog fighting and cruelty. I don't know what the solution is to this ongoing problem, but I do know it's not about outlawing a breed. When you outlaw *any* breed and set a precedence, more breeds will follow.

| Where I live Pitbulls are banned and I'm quite happy about it. Whether its the owners or the dogs, it doesn't matter. They are able to tame lions but would I have one for a pet? Obviously not. You always hear but he was a nice quiet boy and then becomes a serial killer. Or my dog has never attacked anyone or any dog before. Time to permanently ban them all over the world. |

| How sad. The rap star is a jerk for not apologizing, and I'm glad the woman is standing up for herself and her baby. I think there should be a ban on breeding pits. Let's face it, many people get them because of their background/history/folklore...and then they don't put the time and the effort into training them, socializing them, or maintaining them so they cannot get loose and terrorize someone in this manner. There has to be something done to hold people accountable for their pets and taking care of their pets. Either that or a major undertaking of changing how the breed is perceived by the masses. That being said any dog can snap. I have a hundred pound black lab. Sweetest 11 year old male, smart as a whip, and the best "old man" I could have ever hoped for. One thing...he has a tendency to pick and choose which small dogs to like and which one's to grab in his mouth and toss in the air. He is fine with his pom (our Sarge), and he is fine with Teddie (My yorkie), but I had a neighbor who had a poodle and he grabbed and tossed the dog. No warning, no nothing. Needless to say I had a vet bill to pay and a ton of apologies to make. We know this about Balance so we keep him under control at all times. I wish all people knew their animals and treated them, and what they could do, with respect.

from AVMA.org: Statistics on fatalities and injuries caused by dogs cannot be responsibly used to document the “dangerousness” of a particular breed, relative to other breeds, for several reasons. First, a dog’s tendency to bite depends on at least 5 interacting factors: heredity, early experience, later socialization and training, health (medical and behavioral), and victim behavior.7 bite rates unreliable.Second, there is no reliable way to identify the number of dogs of a particular breed in the canine population at any given time (eg, 10 attacks by Doberman Pinschers relative to a total population of 10 dogs implies a different risk than 10 attacks by Labrador Retrievers relative to a population of 1,000 dogs). Third, statistics may be skewed, because often they do not consider multiple incidents caused by a single animal. Fourth, breed is often identified by individuals who are not familiar with breed characteristics and who commonly identify dogs of mixed ancestry as if they were purebreds. Fifth, the popularity of breeds changes over time, making comparison of breed-specific | |

| My first thought was...who is Rick Ross?? Then I opened the link and saw. What really got me was the bit at the bottom of the page...'when celeb dogs attack'. Three other cases...2 of them with Pits. Now, that's not a knock on Pits. What it makes me think of is the Paris Hilton syndrome...only with a dominant breed. These people obviously don't realize that you don't just 'get' a dog and that's all there is to it. They are not extensions of our egos, but are sentient beings with needs. Time needs to be put into any dog. You can't just 'get' one and have the help take care of it. Warped values, as some of these celebrities have, can only lead to unstable animals.
