Does anyone own an invisible fence for the backyard? Right now we have a fence but we are moving and fences are not allowed. There is a man made lake in back. He loves to run around in the yard here but won't be able to let him loose there and wonder if the transmitter on the collar is heavy. Do you keep it on them all the time? I wonder because he is an escape artist and runs out the door as soon as we open it a crack. Thanks

I have the same problem in my neighborhood. We are only allowed certain kinds of fences. I have the wireless invisable fence for my Boxer that works great for him. However, I've never considered using it for my Yorkie. I think they are just too small. I don't know if the collars come in different sizes or not but I wouldn't be comfortable using it on my Yorkie. I would love to let mine get out and run around free but I have to keep him a leash. I have been working with him trying to get him stay close to me without a leash. He was doing really good because I took a bag of treats out with me. He gave me a big scare a few weeks ago because he wouldn't come back when I called him so he is back on a leash.

Just keep in mind that invisible fences don't keep out visible predators!

I wish u the best, I'm not a Big fan on the invisible fence , but I know what u r going thru, I just love it when they can run save in a fence yard.

Just remember this, if he gets through the fence and gets a big old shock, the chances of him coming back into the yard if he does escape are very slim.. its the same aweful surge of pain coming and going!!

I have had an invisable fence for 8 yrs. I have 4 of my 6 Yorkie's with the invisable fence collar. The PROPER training for the correct use of the collar takes 3 weeks (15-20 min a day) I think its a fabulous invention. I live on a double ended culdisac and all my neighbors do not let their dogs run loose.

The collars are set up with 3 different levals of correction, you have to choose which one is best. for your dog. Rarley do mine go past the border now. You have to keep checking the collar every couple weeks to make sure the battery is still working. If not it can be easily replaced.

There are many different brands of invisable fence out there. I have the ORIGINAL INVISABLE FENCE. it is the only fence that is endorsed by the humane society.

When my Yorkies are outside I never leave the house and I am always very aware that they are outside and I am never far away.

Its Invisable fence .com. I live in Cincinnati but if you called you could ask the owner to refer you to a close one to you. He has done that for others in need a few times.

I live on 3 acres and use an invisible fence with my aussie. She has about 1 acre fenced off to roam on. I agree with Janie Doyle, the proper training takes a few weeks 15-20 minutes daily. The training is very important it cannot be rushed or done half way if you want the fence to contain your pet. In 3 years my aussie has never broken the barrier. She gets an audible tone if she gets too close and and she will immediately turn back towards the house. I use the DogWatch system and love it. It has several different settings soft to hard to train, you can also adjust the range of the "zap" zone. After winter I plan on getting the mini collar and training my yorkie to use it also so she can have some supervised outside freedoms and not have to be leashed all the time.

I'd like to add that I have the Pet Safe Wireless containment system. It's great because there is no installation. You just have a unit that you place somewhere in your home and it cast a signal for the pet containment area. I want to say mine is 1/2 mile radius but i'm not sure. There's no installation and they run about $250. My dog never leaves the area.

There are some dogs that this will not work on and a proper fence it the only way to go.
I have one freind that has had the company rep back sevarl l times as her dog will go through at any level. His suggestion is make it hurt more and sooner....duh fool it not making a differnce.
The dog winds up and rigth on through it goes.
No way to stop it happening and then the dog can not get back to the house so out on the road anyway or in the hosres.
