New pup chews and bites Hello everyone, I have a 5 month old Yorkie and he still bites a lot. He pulls trousers and chews anything I am wearing. When I pick him up or he sits with me, he starts chewing my fingers, but when I hide my fingers;he starts searching for them. He becomes so restless when he sees my hands. He is very very friendly dog and my little darling. He was 3 month old when I got him. The previous owner said that he is fully trained. He is toilet trained and when you throw a ball, he brings it back. But this chewing thing is not going away.:( |
S/l he is really teething. I always told mine "no bite" & gave them something immediately that is okay for them to chew. Find what he likes, buy him several different items & I believe this will help immensely. |

NO BITE |
I had that constant biting from my female yorkie and pulling my capris or jeans all the time first it was cut but the it irritated me. I took her to obedience school T pet smart and she learn a lot cause I was at my wits end, I kept telling her no biting and the pants I said leave it they eventually will get it even when she wanted to play rough with biting I will always say no don't bite mommy no bitting she would let up doing it softer, she is 1 1/2 and does do it only she. She want to play but it's much better. Girlies are stubborn little dogs. In the mean time have fun they love to play. |
That's a good idea! Thank you everyone! (: |
It absolutely killed me to give up my routine with chewie before her bone each morning by the nibbling on my fingers. It fixed a lot of her guarding issues, though. Giving her an old shirt of mine to mouth on helped out a lot. |
I've had other dogs before our Bailey entered our lives 5 years ago. The Border Collie/Belgian Shepherd I used to have loved teething on a large weight bar. I would think this might be over kill for a Yorkie though. We were lucky with Bailey. Having said that I took a sock and put a knot on it and he would bite that and we played a pulling toy. I was hopeful this would stop him from taking other socks (of ours) and it worked. He still likes to play this game with his own knotted sock. As well, I use a very thick leather glove and he can bite it as hard as he likes, w/out any feeling of pain on my end. These have all worked well. Hope that you find that something that will work for you. Any updates? |
