YT 2000 Club Donating Member | The importance of dewclaws https://www.facebook.com/groups/1492...3127663580987/ This features working dogs in a specific environment that being water retreive work. How-ever in almost all performance sports dewclaws have a specific function. How-ever there are a couple of drawbacks here - the least important is : as with attention to the nail trimming is that the dewclaw nail left un attended or un trimmed will be the fastest to curl in upon itself and into the pad. Secondly dewclaws can and do get injured which is not only painfull but usually requires corrective surgery. For the pet owner it is important to know if your dog has intact dew claws, ask the breeder and then confirm with your vet the presence or absence of dewclaws.
