| Beemer did it despite the odds! In the fall of 2010 my Yorke Beemer was attacked in class. Here is a link to the thread about it. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/agi...fied-fear.html I'm proud to say that Beemer passed his CGC test last night. I'm so unbelievably proud of how far he's come. This is the same little guy that couldn't stop shaking whenever he was in class. In the end, this is what worked. I quit taking him to class at all for a couple of years. I kept training him at home but just ignored organized class. Then I tried a different school even though I teach in the original one. We thought a new building might help. Nope, he still couldn't function. In the end, what did work was putting him back in puppy class. The little puppies posed no threat and he loved going to class again. He stayed in puppy class for about four sessions (we called him the puppy ambassador ). After this we moved him back to regular classes and he's done great! Last night was the culmination when my little guy, with all the confidence in the world, passed his Canine Good Citizen test. I honestly couldn't be prouder!!

| Congrats! How clever are you for thinking about putting your doggy in the puppy section and then letting him advance? Genius idea and obviously effective! Thanks for sharing! That has given me something to think about re: ways to manage Teddy's excitement around other dogs! Congrats!!! |

| I went back and readf your "book"....I am sooooo impressed with your baby, surmounting his fear of getting attacked again in class.....I have very little tolerance for repeated stupidity....the second time that woman dropped that leash and her dog was essentially unrestrained, she would have been asked to leave class, especially in light of the damage her dog had already done to another classmate. That COULD have easily been the end of your little baby...... You really should have a "Graduation Party" for Beemer!!! You were brilliant coming up with a psychological solution to allow Beemer the opportunity to get over this traumatic event in his life....and he worked soooooooo very hard, for his mommy, to make mommy happy and proud of him....that is a fantastic accomplishment for this little man! Congrats to you both! |

| Your triumph with Beemer brought tears to my eyes. I remember your original thread. It's wonderful that you never gave up and that you found a way for Beemer to overcome his fear. You make an outstanding team!
