| Agility type things Hey everyone...our little Kaylee Bear is so full of energy that I thought she might like to do agility training ...any thoughts on this good or bad...she is about 4 lbs and loves to play ball and jump high in the air..

| How old is she? It's important not to over-encourage/push your little ones too soon, as damage can occur to open growth plates, especially jumping high/hard and too much running. Growth plates normally close somewhere between 8-14 months but the only way to know for sure is by having your vet do Xrays. That said, Lakeside Collection online has an agility set for 24.95: | Lakeside Collection It's got a tunnel, weave poles, and a jump (ground level for beginners), and a pause box. cute. http://images.lakeside.com/images/products/5/AKG_MN.jpg

| Wow, I didn't know that it's bad for them to run too much when they are young. My two love their run time outside.....I hope I didn't do any damage

| One would never think they could have these kinds of problems the way they tear through the house and climb on furniture and all! You may find more info on it in the Agility Forum too. Good luck and have fun!

| We did agility with my Westie and it was soo much fun! There was a little Yorkie in the class before ours. They put the bars way low to the ground for the little yorkie; she still got to jump them . . but she didn't have to jump very high. This was a beginners class so not sure what happened after that. That yorkie was so cute, though, running all around . . that's when I knew I wanted one. Last edited by Ringo1; 06-25-2010 at 07:25 PM. Reason: spelling |

Btw, I'm hoping to get Jackson involved in agility in the near future! It's just $$ issue holding me back from taking classes right now, but we did buy a set of weave poles he picked up really fast. I think he'll love it and it's great bonding/training experience.

| Agility equipment, albeit amateur stuff, is always at Ross. I got a jump bar and weave poles. uni doesn't get the weave poles yet, but she's a natural at the jump bar.

| I think its an awesome idea I wanted to do it with Callie but for now the orthopedic surgeon says no jumping due to her front leg over extending.

| This article explains growth plates pretty well: Exercising Growing Puppies - FamilyEducation.com Two years old is plenty old enough to start agility. Puppyhood is great for training the basics, sit, down, and stay, which are necessary for agility. Tricks are also great to train, and I like having them to do while waiting at the start line. I feel it keeps me from getting too nervous, warms up the dog and gets her focusing on me.

| Agility My Brady is 3 but because he had surgery on his knee 2 1/2 years I hesitate to let him do any jumping.
