| Any tips on teaching Louis new tricks? I have taught other dogs to sit, give paw, roll over, flip bones from nose into mouth etc. I can't get Louis to do anything except the command "sit." I have seen other yorkies do all kinds of tricks and I just wanted to know if there are any tips you can share with me? |

| Here's a thread I started- http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/tra...-progress.html There's lots of good advice in there. As Zak George would say... find Louis' "currency" aka his form of money, whether it be food, dog treats, toys, etc. Find what gets him most excited! Trick training is really a lot of fun and I think it creates a great bond between you & your dog. I usually try to spare at LEAST 10 minutes a day practicing with Jackson but usually it's 30 minute sessions either in the morning or at night. He knows about 20 tricks now at 1 year old. Certain tricks are harder than others and take longer, others take him 5 minutes. He learned "crawl" in about 2 minutes simply by luring him across the floor with a treat. "Bang bang you're dead" took him a few weeks of practice every night for 5 mins or so and eventually he just got it. Shake is usually a good second trick to teach. It's easier for most dogs (but of course for Jackson it wasn't lol) but you just keep grabbing their paw and say "shake" and eventually they do it on their own. Lots of patience, trust, respect and TREATS! lol. I would do a YouTube search for "kikopup" or "zakgeorge." They have good tutorials. Good luck!

Dog Tricks! Shake, Crawl, Beg, Kiss, Roll Over, Bow, and more! is a good site, too. If you have any other questions on specific tricks, just let me know. I can try my best to explain but I'm horrible at explaining things... lol. Here's a list of all his tricks (I think!): sit, down, stay, come, crawl, spin, spin the other way, dance, roll over, bang bang you're dead, limp, shake, sit pretty, high-five, ten-five, take off my socks, catch (a toy or object in his mouth), around & under (our version of weaving through my legs staying still), and take a bow (he did it consistently for the first time the other day, yay!). OK, I THINK that's all.

I wanted to add you can get some tiny little treats from Petsmart and they're called "Pet Botanics Training Reward" and they come in a green bag. Jackson loves these and they're little & soft so I can even break them into smaller pieces (but they're already really small). Also, Nature's Recipe has some tiny training treats you can find in a plastic bottle. Usually when it comes to learning a new trick, I try to use little bits of hot dog (I know, unhealthy but it's ONLY a few tiny tiny pieces and for learning new tricks, nothing else). Or pieces of chicken.

| Yes, I feel so proud of him! I will definetly keep you posted on his next trick. What is Jackson's next trick? You are probably running out of things since he knows so many already! |

| Yep, he hosts Super Fetch on Animal Planet. I was considering enrolling in some agility -- but I think I'm just going to try it out for fun. I bought weave poles and a jump hoop but have yet to try them out.

| I will have to check out Super Fetch. I think you should try out agility, even if just for fun. It looks like great bonding for people and their pets. |
