| Finish Ok I have a pretty nice front finish on my girl but the left finish her butt pops out and it is not straight. Any thoughts on tiding it up? JL

| First, let me tell you I'm not a professional trainer. Secondly, I'm better at showing dog training techniques that I've learned than describing them but I'm going to give it a try and hope that I make sense. Stand parallel to a wall where the wall is to your left. You will want to keep a tight space between you and the wall so that when your dog goes into the finish position, he/she would almost have to squeeze through. The wall will act as a straight edge forcing the body to come in straight and the butt aligned. Hope this helps.

| The wall can work well but some dogs dont like to try to squeeze into the small amount of space. Also because they have to walk thru, turn around and then get into heel position it takes a little longer. I like my left hand finishes to be quick--almost like they pop into place. To get nice straight sits I used PVC pipes to build a little U frame. The inside measures about 6" and its about 13" long. I place the U next to me in the heel position and it trains my dog to sit straight (since they dont want to sit on the PVC pipes). I use this on my fronts too and it really helped. I started using this technique on my Dobe (his U frame is bigger lol) and it worked like a charm. So far its been a great help to my finished Yorkie while we train for Rally and Novice obedience. Best of luck to you! I hope the above made sense! Also, huge kudos to you for training in obedience! These guys get a kick out obedience! |

| Beginners We just graduated from Beginners Obedience and Ginger Bear, 8 months old, came in 1st in Sit/Stay and Down/Stay (both 3 min.) and 3rd Overall in class! She was the only small dog in her class of 12. I have taken my sheepdogs through Companion Dog and wondered how in the world would I go about training a Yorkie puppy! Whoa, was it fun and shockingly easy! Ginger Bear loved the other dogs, the routines and the praise. She responds more to Yipee or Awesome than to a treat. She was the star as she proudly healed, always intently watching me with that Yorkie Smile! We'll start Intermediate Obedience in a few weeks. Keep everyone posted! |
