Belle It is wise to have her xrayed. You will be able to see how many pups and that is a big help to know when she is finished whelping. It sounds as if she IS pregnant..has all the signs. Does she have a clear, sticky discharge? That is rarely seen in a non-pregnant bitch. Breeding can be very costly and you can not scrimp on what is needed for your bitch..if your vet sees one oversized pup, you have a heads up that there is a good chance she will need vet assistance to deliver..several smaller pups usually pass with no trouble..although things go wrong for no apparent reason sometimes..it is best to be prepared.
Get a box for her..an oversized cat litter pan works well..put a heating pad under the box, not inside..keep it warm. Have the vet check you bitch after whelping to make sure all the pups are passed and her temp is normal..make sure she eats well...give her calcium, daily after she whelps..not before. Good luck |
