I doubt your vet would suggest it if he didn't feel it wasn't necessary... He's seen her teeth, we have not....
Take a look at 'em. If you see any yellow or brown build up, a cleaning may be a good idea. Poor dental hygine can lead to other health problems down the road.
I don't think it's surpising to need a cleaning after just a year and a half. Some dogs just have more dental problems than others. My parent's beagle, for instance, goes for a cleaning once a year, but it off any longer and her teeth get absolutely nasty.
Do you brush your pup's teeth? Spending a few minutes a few times a week brushing her teeth yourself can delay costly vet cleanings and will benefit your pup in other ways as well.
As far as sedation... I don't think it's possible to do a good cleaning without anesthesia. Putting them under gives them a chance to *really* get in there and check things out. |
