I doubt that she understood the closet thing but maybe it was good for you to have a few minutes to calm down. very scary.
I would start working with her inside the house, where it is safe. get her used to coming to you...even if you have to bribe her with a treat.
And the next time you go for a walk make the loop on the leash fit tightly around your hand so she can't slip away. (I have skinny hands so I tie a knot in it and slip it over my hand)
