It probably is not but the test is easy on them and inexpensive...definitely something I would do before an ultrasound.
My Teddy Bear had a shunt that was not picked up until he was an adult...amazingly he never had elevated enzymes....here is a link about his shunt: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...ver-shunt.html
Here is a great link about liver issues: https://vetmed.tennessee.edu/vmc2/Do...D-Brochure.pdf |
I will definitely ask about the bile acid test, I asked my previous vet about it and she suggested against it. What are the risks with an ultrasound and why is it considered an aggressive approach? Capone has never had anything else show as abnormal on his lab results. He’s never shown any symptoms and is always very energetic. My previous vet told me that some dogs just have higher ALT levels and it’s nothing to worry about. But I always want to take all the necessary precautions because I would be so upset if there was something wrong with him and I just didn’t take the steps to find out what it was.
