Who in the world would imagine PETA would steal a dog from private property and then put it down? THAT thought did not even occur to ME, and I am very skeptical of their agendas, etc! The thought of a "hold time" probably would not even enter their thoughts, as the dog was not lost or running the streets....you dont imagine a rescue that "loves and respects animals and operates for the ethical treatment of animals" would tresspass and steal your pet from your yard......does this mean they can come to your yard, take your dog, "hold" it for 3 days and then put it down because they are getting too crowded?
This is exactly the kind of crap I would expect from PETA. They euthanize practically every dog they pick up. They believe dogs living with humans is unnatural even though we created dogs from selective breeding of wolves. They don't think there should be domesticated dogs even though those are the only kind. They're opposed to you and would shut you down in a second if they had the political clout, despite you being a really well regarded and well liked breeder. Directly from their website:

However, we very much oppose the puppy mills and private breeders that supply many companion animals; PETA is absolutely opposed to all breeding. In U.S. animal shelters alone, up to 4 million dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens are euthanized each year, simply because there aren’t enough homes for them. Given the astounding number of healthy and loving but unwanted animals who are being killed, we believe that breeding more animals merely to satisfy the desire for a particular behavioral or physical trait is absurd and selfish. We do, however, encourage those who have the desire, time, and patience to take good care of an animal to rescue homeless strays or adopt animals from a shelter. In fact, most PETA staff members live with animals who have been rescued from abuse or abandonment.

Videos NSFW because of language, but a great illustration of how big of hypocrites these losers are.
