I am not sure if there is a set age but I did mine at 12 weeks. If I ever have puppies I will keep the ears shaved allot earlier. The extra weight on the ears makes a big difference. The masking tape I used lasted about three to four days and started to fall off. It didn't seem to be hard to get off and the dog didn't mind it at all. The second 4 days I did make a bridge connecting both ears. This seemed to help them stand up better. Someone also told me that around 6 months the cartilage in the ear stiffens so you would want to try to get them standing by then. Good Luck.
