Sorry for the delay...we're moving at work and I haven't been on much...won't be here much today either.
Anyway, yes, I tie them off about an inch from the pup's belly and cut the cord (with non-sharp child's scissors) on the bitch's side.
The floss hardens up and falls off with the cord.
