I never crate trained my guys, so no advise on that. I used an ex-pen w/potty area & separate bed & play area, kinda like a puppy apartment. It sounds & looks like Rosie will be silky haired like her Mom & Dad. Usually, the soft cotton ones stay black & tan. My Mimi girl has light tan & silvery hair & she has silky hair that doesn't tangle. Momo stayed black & tan & he's very soft & cottony fluffy, tangles easily.
