To make a long story short, we did keep an eye on Hot Rod and turns out that he does have some crystals. We got meds for him and the vet gave us a course of treatment to watch for and follow.
Just wanted to say Thanks for your input! I would have probably not even thought to keep an eye on this otherwise.
