This has been our experience also. Koda and Kammie each have their own medium size ones and have never had an accident in them. They each have 2 blankies in the back 1/2 of it and whatever toys they have drug in that day, lol! Kammie has a infant hanging toy that clips on her "roof" lol and she loves playing and batting it around On the other 1/2 is an additional water bowl besides their regular ones in the kitchen and ample standing room in the front when they are being nosey waiting for us to come home. Not disagreeeing by any means about the just small enough crates for training though, we have just been lucky that the bigger ones have worked for us
