Judging from the fact that you are questioning "normal" behavior of your expecting female, I'm assuming this is your first litter. And a big one at that! I'm hoping the advice I am about to give is something you have already covered bases on as it really SHOULD be a given, but...
Please make every effort possible to have your mentor or vet with you during the whelp. IF this is the first litter you have ever had a hand in whelping, it is not something to try to handle on your own, in particular when it is a potentially large litter which *could* present more difficulty. The best scenario is to have an experienced trained eye there to help you.

Again, this is kind of a general rule, and you seem to be doing all you can, so it's probably a moot point, but it never hurts to emphasize to be safe.
