I would think it's more related to teething and sore gums than neutering. I'm surprised the vet neutered him that quick if he still had retained baby teeth (you usually have all baby teeth pulled when they're under during the neuter).
If he is teething and sore, he may not want to eat kibble bc it hurts - so you may want to pick up canned.
