It isn't just males that mark. My female marks (at the petstore and when we go visiting). She marks on walks but I discourage it. I try not to let her do it on people's lawns and by mailboxes since that is someone else's property. I don't think marking is acceptable anywhere and I do understand it is very natural. It is hard to stop though. I agree about the pee pad but some people have no choice. I would never expect a Yorkie to hold it for 8-10 hours like a bigger dog (although some can) because that is just too long. If nobody is there to let them out, pee pads it is.
