I got a little cordless personal trimmer (like a tiny electric shaver). It is much better than messing with the cord. Quiet is better, too. Shave the top 1/3, but dont brush the ear hair upward below the line. You want that part to grow and fall back down.

I have also heard that feeding them cottage cheese can help build the calcium in their ears. I am giving it to my puppies (but I like it, too; so we all get a bite every morning). I shaved one-third of my puppies ears, but now I am going to trim them all the way down. They are 7 1/2 weeks old.
